May 2019 

Congratulations to our newest Hokie graduates, Razvan Radu, Sam Oxley, and Alexandra Marnot!  Razvan will be working at Rovisys, Sam has been hired by Exxon Mobil, and Alexandra will attend Georgia Tech for graduate school.  Best of luck to you all!

Jake Fallon, Eric Gilmer, and Arit Das presented posters of their research at the 2019 Materials Innovations and Instrumentation Expo held on May 7 at Moss Arts Center. The Expo looks to engage researchers who work anywhere within the structure-process-property-performance pyramid of materials science.​

May 2019 

Arit Das has received the International Research Experience for Students (IRES) fellowship from the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech for conducting collaborative research at University of Nottingham.  Arit will be working with Dr. Davide De Focatiis over the summer to develop novel characterization techniques for monitoring friction in composite forming processes​.   Congratulations Arit!

April 2019 

Jim Owens was named as a 2019 Goldwater Scholar.   The prestigious undergraduate scholarship program is awarded to outstanding students annually, encouraging them to pursue careers in the fields of mathematics, the natural sciences, and engineering.   Congratulations Jim!​

The 11th Annual Chemical Engineering Graduate Student Assembly(ChEGSA) Research Symposium was recently held at the Inn at Virginia Tech.  Eric Gilmer, Arit Das, Cailean Pritchard, and Brad Sutliff gave oral presentations at the event.  Poster presenters included Razvan Radu and Jim Owens.​

March 2019 

A new article was published in ACS Applied Nano Materials: " Silver Nanoparticle Pulsed Synthesis and Attachment to Cellulose Nanocrystals"   Congrats to all the authors, including James Owens, Alycia Rouffa, and Dr. Bortner!​

February 2019 

Dr. Bortner and Arit Das presented at the 2019 Adhesion Society Annual Meeting in Hilton Head, NC.  Dr. Bortner also co-chaired a symposium on Adhesion Challenges in Additive Manufacturing, and was elected vice-chair of the Structural Division of the Society.​

February 2019 

Arit Das received an award to present his research at the 2019 Annual Meeting of the Thermoset Resin Formulators Association(TRFA) in Charleston, South Carolina.  The award includes complimentary registration and travel expenses to attend the meeting where he will present work involving characterizing friction during composite forming process.​
